A four strong entourage of thugs left an innocent taxi driver with severe injuries after subjecting him to a vicious assault.
The 31 year old taxi driver, who plies his trade for Basildon based A&B Taxis, picked up two men from Oldwyk at around 11pm on Friday night.
Lady luck did not favour the stricken man, as he was due to have picked up another fare – but from the same pick up point – but those customers were actually collected by a Value Cars operative whose good fortune was very much in.
The victim took his passengers, a male duo, to Redgrave Road in Vange. After arriving at a car park, the men were joined by a further two accomplices who proceeded to attack the driver without warning.
After taking the driver’s cash and keys, they stabbed him in the shoulder before scarpering from the scene. Left hunched in his vehicle with a seeping wound, the driver was able to contact the emergency services who arrived at the scene in good time.
After being rushed to Basildon Hospital where he was given treatment for his injuries, the A&B employee was allowed to return to the comfort of his own home, where he is expected to make a full recovery.
But now his bosses, A&B joint bosses Gary Brand and Steve Foster, are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Our driver lost a lot of blood as a result of his wound and, right now, he is very much thinking long and hard about his future in the industry,” commented Brand.
“We take our responsibility as employers very seriously and that is why we are offering a £2,000 reward for anyone who can come forward with information that will lead to a conviction.”
Aside from the short term quest for justice, Brand was quick to point out that he and his senior colleague had learnt long term lessons that would be implanted imminently.
“This has been one of the worst incidents of violence towards our drivers over the last few years and enough is enough. We are now proactively looking to introduce some sort of recording equipment in our vehicles, so as to protect drivers and passengers.”
